We’re at the end of Customer Appreciation Week for PipesandCigars.com. In 2013, we decided to thank our loyal customers by having a special sale on August 20th, which is six months from International Pipe Smoking Day. The response to that day was phenomenal.So, a couple of months ago, we had a meeting to discuss the event for this year. Eric began the conversation with an evil grin and told us that we weren’t going to have a Customer Appreciation Day this year, we were going to have a Customer Appreciation Week! We began working on the deals for the week right away, and you’ve gotten to see the results.
I’ve had people ask why we started this. Last year, we had some issues following moving our operation, and it took us longer than we expected to iron out the bugs, but you folks stuck by us, so we wanted to say thank you. This year looks to be our best year ever, by quite a margin, and we wanted to give a little bit back to the P&C Faithful. That’s why we stretched it out to a week of specials.
Before the sales could begin, we needed input from our marketing team, who are amazing at compiling information to make our jobs easier. Our design department had to create graphics for the emails and the website. We, in the merchandising department selected the items for the sales and wrote the emails, which also required help from marketing and our IT department. This was all prior to the event. Once it started, the real craziness began.
The warehouse made sure to get all the sale items stocked up so the order pickers could work as efficiently as possible, and they were pushed to the limit. They started early and finished late, and the trucks were packed tight with cartons. The staff here in merchandising went down to help pick orders so they could catch up. Since there was a new deal each day, a number of people had to be involved throughout the week to make sure that everything worked.
The last deal is up on the site, and we’re probably going to have some extra people coming in over the weekend to wrap up the last of the Friday offers. That means that things will relax a bit, but it won’t last long because we’re bringing out some new products shortly, and then we’ll be into the holiday shopping season.
I’m inordinately proud to be part of this team. We’ve got a great group of people who really care about doing a good job of taking care of our customers. Are we perfect? Hell no, but we’re improving a bit every day and we’re always on the lookout for new and better products and special buys to save you money on the items you want.
I just wanted to take the time to pay tribute to a great team of workers, and also to say thanks to you for paying our salaries because of your loyalty. As long as you stick with us, we’ll continue to do the best we can to deliver what you’re looking for at the best prices possible.
