In another month, I’ll mark ten years since I first came to PipesandCigars.com. It doesn’t seem remotely possible, but it is. Scott hired me, in part, because his staff was heavily cigar-oriented and he wanted someone with more of a pipe background. Along with routine store duties, I was also asked to be the liaison with our pipe club. Scott knew that I had done some blending and asked me to make some tobaccos for the club to try. I brought them to the next meeting and the members sampled them. What happened next was something that none of us saw coming.
The blends were a hit, so Scott told me to put them on our tobacco bar for sale. Almost immediately, they sold so well that people began asking if I had any new blends. Scott saw the reception of the new tobaccos and decided to put them on our website. I thought it would be best if the blends had a brand name, so I settled on Hearth & Home. I liked the comfortable homespun feel of the name. So they went up on the site, and took off. After some customers tried them and wrote about them in some of the forums, the brand took on a life of its own, and kept me busy just trying to keep up. Now there are more than 40 blends under the H&H banner, and we’ve had to partner up with a manufacturer to make them because I couldn’t do it all myself. Our latest release was WhiteKnight, and to give you an idea how far H&H has come, we sold over a thousand tins in the first two full weeks.
Next year will mark ten years for the brand, and we have a couple of items that we’ll bring out in 2015 to celebrate. I can’t give you any details about them yet, but one of them will include a party. How will we do that? You’ll just have to check back and find out.
