As we have previously reported, we completely sold through 100 tins of our International Pipe Smoking Day 2012 Blend in less than a day. This was unprecedented in the history of the Hearth & Home brand, even eclipsing the introduction of BlackHouse after winning the 2011 Balkan Sobranie 759 Throwdown. When it was first blended, we sampled it to our pipe club members and to a number of customers who usually smoke Latakia blends, and the reaction was amazing. Everyone who tried it gave the tobacco the thumbs up. Even our biggest Latakiaphile customer, Larry Loertzel (of Larry’s Blend fame), fell in love with it.
The only problem was that one of the component tobaccos was in very limited supply, so we proceeded with the thought that this was going to be a one-time, restricted availability blend. But when the feedback came, it was so overwhelming that I had to see if I could find enough of that one component to at least make another 100 tins or so.
After some phone calls, a little begging and pleading and a lot of crossed fingers, we were able to secure plenty enough to continue making the blend. By the end of the week of Feb 19, we should have a new batch of tins with the new labels ready to ship.
The new blend will now be called Cerberus (for the three-headed hellhound that keeps the citizens of the underworld from returning), and is given that name due to the three big and bold tobaccos (Latakia, Perique and dark-fired Kentucky) that make the blend so robust. In addition to those tobaccos, Cerberus also uses some great Orientals and Virginias.
We hope you’ll give it a try, especially if you missed out on the initial run of IPSD tins.
